State Fish-Off 2007

The state tournament was held August 18 and 19 on Lake Champlain. The waters were rough with waves filling boats, causing equipment to fly overboard and destroying boats, motors and electronics. The weather pulled Jim and Skip off their fish the first day. Skip had 2 three- pounders and a four-pounder the first day but wasn't able to hold on the hump that had these quality smallmouth. Jim had a hump also that wasn't allowing him to stay on his fish either. On the second day, Jim's fish were still in the area and he was able to work them to pull in 13 pounds worth of fish. Skip did a long run for largemouth with fresh 17 lb test line on, however he did not notice that damage from the rough water had busted out the eyes on his best medium-heavy bait casting rod. This cost Skip four large largemouth that broke off due to the line being cut from the jagged eyes on his rod, but still managed to catch 11 lbs worth of fish on that day. Jim was using a drop-shot rig with a finesse worm, like the Magic Worm and Skip was Carolina-rigging with the Magic Worm and Catch 'em baits also, which produced very large fish on both days. All in all, our anglers placed well out of the 166 that braved the weather. Our club members placed as follows:

Name Place Fish Weight
Skip Bryant 29 20.77
James Blanchard 45 18.25
